Positano First Communicant

By David Stearne

This boy is one of many children sheltering in local shops against a rain shower prior to entering the church in Positano to receive the Eucharist and his first Holy Communion. What struck me was his Mother fussing and offering him the protection of her umbrella against the elements but his face is a picture of faith, intent, serenity and devotion for what lay ahead. The boy is dressed in traditional holy robes and carries a lily and a candle, all in white, to represent light and purity.
