Praying for Peace

By Mark Hutson

On July 1, 1916, one of the bloodiest days in the history of the world and one of the most tragic for this community; the flower of the youth of Grimsby were wiped out. On that day the “Chums” –the 10th Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, went into action at the Somme. And now a century on, this event is remembered so that it never slips over the edge of memory; so people understand the futility of what happened and to guide wiser minds of their generation. Peace; everyone’s prayer
