Contemplating the pity of war

By Brenda Drumm

This is a photo of Archbishop Eamon Martin, the Archbishop of Armagh, praying at the grave of a German Soldier who died in the first world war. This was an unscheduled stop as part of a recent pilgrimage to sites in Belgium and France associated with the first World War. Having visited the Commonwealth graveyards full of beautifully tended graveston, we found that we could not pass the graveyard of the German soldiers where we prayed for peace and reconciliation. This is faith in action........
