Songkran

By Kathryn Phillips

Songkran is Thailand's most widely reported festival - the Spring Festival when the New Year is marked and a great deal of water is thrown and alcohol drunk, often by tourists. The festival is a time for family and for worship in the villages and this photographs marks just that: Buddhist villagers worshipping quietly at their own shrine. In every faith there are occasions when the public representation of festivals doesn't do justice to their real meaning.
